John Warland of Canford Magna - 1683 to 1862

John Warland (November 1683 - 6 June 1769, Canford Magna, Dorset, England) was the son of John Warland (1650 - 1730) and Mary Warland (nee Henslow) (1660 - 1753). He married Sarah Painter (1685 - 8 September 1769, Canford Magna, Dorset, England) in 1716 in Dorset and they had the following children, all probably born in Canford Magna:

A Jane Warland married a William Winters on 29 April 1750 in Wimborne Minster. It is not yet clear who this Jane is and if her husband might have been related to Catherine Winter, above.

John and Sarah Warland's son William Warland (22 December 1722 - 1 April 1801) married Jane (Jenny) Dunford (? - 14 February 1796) in 1760. John and Sarah Warland - or at least their children William and Hannah - moved to Corfe Mullen by 1791. They had the following children:

William and Jane Warland's second son, John Warland (1763 - 1843) married Mary Dolan in 1789 in Canford Magna, Dorset, England, and they had the following children:

Family of Louisa Warland (1806 - 17 August 1862)

Louisa Warland (1806 - 17 August 1862), daughter of John Warland (1763 - ) and Mary Dolan, married Josiah Jolliffe (1806 - ) in 1832 at St Thomas Portsmouth. They had the following children (text of information about children was provided by Jim Jolliffe in New Zealand - see below):

James Edward Jolliffe (8th February 1858 at Southsea, Portsmouth - 4th March 1935 Gosport), buried Kingston Cemetery, married Ellen Ann Hutchens, born 4th November 1866, married 22nd August 1886 at Holy Trinity Church Gosport and died 16th July 1916. James Edward Jolliffe and his wife Ellen Ann had children.

One of these children migrated from Portsmouth to Western Australia in 1922, having served in the 29th British Division, wounded at Cape Helles, Gallipoli, transferred to Royal Flying Corps which became the Royal Air Force in 1918. He was discharged from the R.A.F. in 1922.

The son of this Jolliffe, James (Jim) Jolliffe, born c 1929, now lives in New Zealand. He visited Portsmouth England in 1989 and met a first cousin Leonard Jolliffe there, now deceased.

Aside from Mary Ann Warland and Louisa Warland, nothing else is (yet) known about the descendants of this family.

John Warland died in 1769 and was buried in the grounds of Canford Church, Dorset, England.
