Y-DNA Testing - Warland / Worland

From mid 2013, basic Y-DNA tests were carried out through www.familytreedna.com to determine if the Warland and/or Worland families were related. The results collected so far were unexpected.

Dorset and Oxfordshire origin Warland Y-DNA

Testing of one Warland living in Australia from the Dorset/Australia line indicated that his Y-DNA was L21 (S145/M529), a subclade of R1b1a2 (R-M269) via L150/L21 - L51 - L11/L52/L151/P310 - P311 - R1b1a2a1a2 (R-P312/S116). The L21 group appears to have migrated to Britain around 2,100 BCE: 'The Proto-Italo-Celto-Germanic R1b people had settled in what is now Germany by 2300 BCE, where they founded the Unetice culture. Judging from the propagation of bronze working to Western Europe, those first Indo-Europeans reached France and the Low Countries by 2200 BCE, Britain by 2100 BCE and Ireland by 2000 BCE, and Iberia by 1800 BCE.' Testing of one Warland living in Australia from the Oxford line indicated that his Y-DNA was I1 (M253).

Cambridgeshire Worland Y-DNA

Testing of a Worland from the Cambridgeshire area (with links to Australia), and a separate Worland whose connections with the former are yet to be determined indicated that both had J2-M172 Y-DNA. There are various theories around how this Y-DNA arrived in the UK. Some of these theories are found on this site (with links to other sources), and include the following suggestions:
